Unpopular Opinion: We Focus Too Much On The Views,Likes, And Making Money On Media Platforms.

To be fair, when I started with this business this is what drove me too. The potential of reaching a 300% ROI in just a few weeks. I quickly discovered this is not realistic and to be able to go this far it requires a lot of planning, patients, and structure.

Over the course of the social media era, a lot of new opportunities for entrepreneurs and creators have come to light. Everything suddenly was underneath the tip of your fingers. And at some point, people started to make money with it. This caused many people to believe there was an easier way for starting a business. This is true, anyone above 18 can start a business online, and you don’t need to be a genius to do it. However, just like anything in life, nothing is too good to be true. Just like any business, to become successful you need knowledge, structure, planning and above all being ready to make long hours and be motivated at all times!

The beauty of social media

The overnight success stories, we have all heard them. The beauty of social media makes it seem all so easy. Falling into this trap makes you believe you are no good. This happened to me. I became insecure because nothing seemed to work out for me. And the people who made me so excited to start my own business suddenly did not seem so reliable anymore. Because they made me believe that overnight success was the way to success. “Just do it”, “be relentless”, “stop at nothing”. All things I used to believe in.

But when it did not work out, I thought I was no good. Maybe I was not fit to start a business, maybe I did not have what it takes. I became insecure and did not know if I should continue…

The truth eventually always sheds light

Then I stumbled upon others within the online business era. They taught me that it wasn’t all so obvious. That the insecurity that I felt now comes from a place of believing the impossible. We figured that I needed a coach. Someone who looks at this world realistically and knows how to guide people like me in the same area.

This changed it all for me;

I became more aware of what an online business should be, and I taught myself the necessary skills that I needed. I had to teach myself to project management, to sell a product and not just a service, and gain back my confidence.

And make no mistake, this takes time and lots of work! But it was worth it. Because I can say I actually own a business now. That I am selling a service with a product around it, and have the necessary connections that I need to build something. Because you can’t do it all on your own.

Quit thinking about the likes and the money.

The work I put into all of this over the past year and a half gave me the realization that nothing in life comes for free. But also, that money and likes are not the end goal. It is being proud of what I have achieved so far and being able to say that I gave it all that I got.

I used to dread working on my business because I was afraid to fail. Now I enjoy it. Because I know I am on the right path of growth and achievement. This is what makes me happy and excited for the future; structure, planning, and going the extra mile.

Switch to the personal growth mindset instead of the money mindset, and make your business about satisfying others, not about shortcuts in life! Because there are no shortcuts. Even when social media makes us believe there are. I have learned the hard way.

Work smart not hard

I do believe that there are ways to work smart and not hard. This is why I think that social media is an amazing platform to reach one’s potential. Businesses can truly make a difference with the great tools that various platforms like Facebook and Google ads have to offer. I believe it works, and have proved to make it work.
